Visual Communication I :: Syllabus/Supply List -- Lecture #01
Objective
Theoretical and applied studies in two dimensional design, visual communication, linear representation, and color theory.

Graphic Language
This course is divided into three topics:

Two Dimensional Design
Sequential problems in black and white dealing with line, contour and shape; studies with theoretical and applied interpretations of flat and volumetric shapes; black, white, and color composition. Emphasis is on the development of hand-skills, perceptual awareness, and terminology used as criteria.

Visual Communication
Theoretical exercises based on communicating through visual terms using color, shape, line, and juxtaposition. All work is done in gouache. Criteria are concept, formal values and craft. Course moves from simple to complex problems.

Pencil Drawing
Free form studies and concrete object forms are explored using graphite medium and paper. The objective is to investigate graphic techniques the designer will find appropriate in the design studio. Drawing is an essential component in graphic design and is invaluable for expressing ideas.
